Bernie Sanders is 80 years old. If he runs in 2024, he is quite likely to die in office. He could run, expecting to die, to create a pathway for another progressive he would select as his vice president to move into the presidency. He would thus be a figurehead, standing for what is right but counting on others to complete the work.
