I gave this quite a lot of thought after my interactions with Elanor yesterday, and I still maintain that having the advantages of autism (more ability than the rest of us to understand and remember facts and give attention to detail, for example) but none of the disadvantages that define autism would be a good thing. I also still maintain that just as I am not defined by my severe allergies--I am more than my allergies-- she is also more than her autism. Think of it this way: Whatever specific problem you have, I'm sure you've noticed there are some advantages to it as well as the disadvantages that define the problem. So what if you had all those advantages but none of the disadvantages? Would that not be a good thing?
