I used TurboTax this year for two reasons. The first is that I've been using it since it was a DOS program, which should tell you how much money they've made from me, but it is a habit. The second is that I thought that the free filing program from the IRS had already been killed. According to your article, it's about to be killed but hasn't been yet. Or did I misread something?
