In the 1990s, I was working at IBM. I was told that I had to train a newly arrived H-1b hire from India to do my job, after which I would be let go. That employee, as I found out before I left, was paid less than half of what I was paid. My pay was very little considering I had trained myself for the job I was doing (IBM had promised to pay for training when I was hired but never did) and my salary had never increased when my responsibilities did. By the time workers were being brought in from India, we American workers had been fighting for scraps for some time.
