I hope that burglary, rape, and general mayhem in somebody else's home is down, but I don't think these crimes are down.

Also, I'm not sure that the chance of a homeowner having a gun and being able to get to it in the middle of the night is much deterrent to somebody who wants to invade and has a gun, loaded, and at the ready. This would be a hard topic to research.
