Lets start at the end of your previous comment:

If the estimated net worth of the very rich were not publicly available, it might be that people would feel less unequal, though I think that the constant bombardment of ads for expensive and frivolous products contributes as much to the feeling. But when we do know how much wealth the rich have accumulated, we can realize how unequal we are--and maybe do something about it.

As to the desired standard of living: I think that everybody wants healthy food, clear air, clean water, adequate health care, a safe place to live and work, and so forth. And the number of people in this country who do not have these things, and have no opportunity to acquire them, is astonishing. I think it would be good to do something so that everyone has opportunity.

I think there's not much difference between poverty and income inequality. Income inequality creates poverty for many, wealth for a few. I don't care what anybody decides to call it.

Finally, I don't agree with you that there is no solution. There are few situations for which there is no solution. The solution may be difficult to discern. Or there may be a multitude of solutions. And I know that any solution, partial or otherwise, will be difficult to implement. But I refuse to believe the American people are completely helpless. I don't think you believe this, either, or you would not have taken the time to write such a long, well-thought-out comment.
