Thanks for your comment, Larry. Racism is, as you say, something experienced personally, but it can be quantified by the three markers for it the researchers selected, and probably by other markers as well. As to the three states you mention: "Keeping Portland Weird" probably would keep racism from being part of the culture. California was not where I would have expected a lot of racism, but but that may be because there are so many non-white immigrants there who have not yet found work, are low paid, or are not able to take advantage of higher education. And Georgia, ... I grew up there, and I remember those days fondly. But I also remember some horrific stories told to me by my white classmates about their weekend activities involving Blacks. Question: If racism can be better measured by markers for it, which does seem to be the case, what are the markers that would measure being at the receiving end of racism?
