It's not just the publishing industry (meaning people who format and print books and offer editing services to a small group of already well-published authors). The marketing industry is truly depressing. I was promoting a book of narrative poetry by a writer I consider to be one of the very best in the business: Billy Collins level. Not one marketer was interested in the book's quality; all the were interested in was offering predesigned packages for set prices. Good writing be damned.
