Those who consistently dismiss attempts to understand both sides should be considered carefully. (I do understand both sides, I think.) Are they trying to maintain the illusion that we are irrevocably divided? (Unfortunately, it's not an illusion.) Does the perception of greater division than actually exists serve them in some way? (No, but the perception of danger serves all--we're destroying ourselves and the planet by ignoring the danger.) Have they taken in by the rhetoric and dogma from the two sides we are being presented? (Maybe. What dogma, specifically?) Is there a better way forward where we all sit at the same table and learn to understand one another again? (Of course, but as long as we continue to be at each others' throats instead of working to make the rich pay their fair share, no better way will ever by experienced.)
