Three Hundred Plus Followers!

A month ago, I was worried I wouldn’t even get a hundred
I want to thank every one of you who followed me since I became active on Medium three months ago, whether you clicked-pro-quo or followed me after reading something in my writing that told you I’d be worth keeping track of.
When you followed me, if I had not already followed you, I did right away if:
- You had a bio and included a picture of yourself. (This seems like a minimum requirement since it’s the first thing a prospective follower sees — or sees the lack of. Some of you had great bios: creative, even quirky; tug-on-my heartstrings; or promising to inform. Some of you had great photos, but that mattered less to me — this isn’t a dating site.)
- What I read of your stories or articles was without too many errors in English. (Call me “that damn editor” if you like, but I think if you want to call yourself a writer, you should let an editor help you or be able to write well without that assistance. Not perfectly. Even the editors need editors sometimes. And some of us write English as a second language — which is certainly better than I can do. But what you write shouldn’t make your readers cringe.)
- At least one of your stories made an impression on me, either by engaging me emotionally or by communicating useful information clearly and concisely. (I am more likely these days to read articles that teach me something I didn’t know than stories about life events. This is odd since my own writing is mostly creative nonfiction. Maybe that’s changing; and maybe it should given the state of the world these days.
As the weeks, and months, and years, go by, I hope my stories will continue to engage you and be useful to you.
