Uh, Russell, I didn't write that it was $4.5 million per day per person; I wrote that it was $4.5 million per day. To make this more clear, however, I will add "for all undocumented immigrants" after "$4.5 million per day." Thanks for pointing out that it might not be clear.

About the prisons, I know that immigrants are mainly peaceful. Neither you nor I would not put them in prisons. However, DHS currently has two of them used for this purpose. The source I found called them "jails," but since they're federal I'm pretty sure they should be called "prisons."

Finally, you are quite right that I'm assuming that legal processes are followed. I think Guantanamo remained relatively unknown for quite a while both because it was outside the U.S. and because none of the prisoners were people many Americans knew about. Neither of these situations would be the case if 11 million undocumented immigrants were being deported. In any case, even if you subtracted $225 billion for new facilites from the grand total of $3.7 quintillion and added the cost of building and maintaining some new concentration camps, the result would still be "gazillions."

I do my best to be accurate when I write articles such as this, but there are so generally so many unknowns and assumptions to be made that all I can do is do my best. Well, aided by a few people who will call me out for perceived or actual inaccuracies--like you do.

So, again, thanks.
