You have to be beyond successful on Medium to make enough money to make much of a difference in your financial situation. So that's not good. Add to that making articles free? No. I think you deserve to be paid at least the small amount that Medium pays. There is way too much taking advantage of workers by corporations. (You can always send Friend links, perhaps in Twitter or Medium, for people who cannot afford to join.)
