Yours is a very valid point., and I am so glad to hear that you and your son are doing well. I'm glad you made this comment, because it may encourage a parent who has not been loving and supportive to be so. My article, however, was written about a parent who feels and has expressed great compassion for a long time--but still has a child who plays computer games all day and expects to be financially supported by that parent. My own experience with this was not with an uncertain, confused child who was going in the wrong direction. In my case, the child had become as abusive toward his family as his abusive parent had been, was aware of this, and was quite OK with it as long as it got him what he wanted without his having to do anything other than play computer games.
